In All Around the House: Photographs of American-Jewish Communal Life, photographer Jay Wolke captures the rich complexity of Chicago's Jewish community through a series of 65 stunning images. Centered entirely on the close-knit neighborhoods of Chicago and its suburbs, Wolke's photographs capture with striking clarity the various Jewish patterns of living in a uniquely American context. University of Chicago historian Joel Snyder calls Woke's work "a view of the complex culture of a people whose devotion to the past everywhere intersects with the anxieties and pressures and pleasures of the present." Two of Wolke's photographs will be on display at Spertus Institute September 22, 2013 - January 12, 2014.
